Our Story
Spencer and I met at our apartment complex in Provo. Spencer's a bit of a socialite and has to know everyone, so when I showed up to a Presidential Debate and he didn't recognize me, he HAD to get to know me. We chatted for a bit, but I was left wanting more. And apparently, so was he. The next Sunday I made sure to spot him in the crowd at church and say hello. For this encounter and probably the next fourteen interactions, I caught Spencer completely off guard and left him speechless. It was quite hilarious.
A month or so passed, the LDS missionary age change (from 21 to 19 for girls; 19 to 18 for boys) was wreaking havoc on the BYU dating world, and Spencer's crowd of friends (girls) were leaving on missions. So he had to make some new connections in the ward. He struck an interest in me and started the pursuit. He was all flirty and I tried to be flirty right back. With the help of a very persuasive roommate, I sent him a Christmas care-package that sent my message of attraction loud and clear. The next day, he asked me on a date. We talked it up over Panda Express in the middle of finals week. We had three dates in three days, followed by a kiss that was not supposed to happen, and then went on Christmas break (in Bountiful and in Texas). It was seriously the LONGEST three weeks of my life. I felt guilty wishing away my time with my family, but I wanted to be back in Provo so I could be with Spencer.
As we were dating, Spencer would ask me questions beginning with, "If we were married..." so we were quite comfortable talking about marriage and life together, though it was still some hypothetical conversation. In one such conversation, we both agreed that we didn't see a reason to break up with each other. And that's when things started to get serious.
Four and a half months and several billion dates later, the semester was coming to an end, and Spencer was going to Bountiful for the summer as I stayed in Provo to work. We'd talked about the future, but the distance was a bit threatening. We worried about staying together, but we knew we could handle it. As our conversations about the future continued, we talked about marriage, and we decided to get married! I took him home to meet my parents, and then he proposed!
We were married in August in the Bountiful temple, and we are loving newlywed life! Join us for the ride, I promise it will be interesting!
P.S. If you want a really enthusiastically told story, ask Spencer for his side of our story. Or maybe if I'm feeling adventurous, I'll let him tell y'all on here.
